Artist Statement
My work is largely inspired by my fascination with the consequences of time on things - both manmade and natural. I am drawn to the quiet, understated beauty of eroded surfaces, weathered facades, worn walls, peeling paint. I am compelled by the subtleties of the surface - the depths of which invite a closer, more contemplative look. The patina produced over time provides a glimpse into the past, while preserving a sense of mystery and uncertainty.
By employing a variety of techniques in my work, I create a layering of information which gives each piece an implied history as well as a present reality. The surfaces are built up, incised, obscured, and scraped away. It is a process of building up and breaking down concurrently. I am interested in exploring how the relationship of past and present is shaped is shaped by this process of accumulation and reduction.
