I love finding weird pictures in reference books I've never heard of. Books that time has long forgotten; some random book used in some random science class in some weird town in the middle of nowhere. I don't even read the books - I don't want to know what the picture is really about most of the time. I'm interested in what my initial reaction is to it. Where do I place it in my mind that is full of checkpoints and relationships to images and words?

I feel as though sometimes I am creating my own personal illustrated dictionary in which I choose the meaning of each picture. If someone had this "book", they could read my subconscious or perhaps predict the future. I save each image, even after I have ripped it from its protective home. I have a hard time getting rid of these little prizes. The paintings are like little celebrations of these random, familiar images.
